Man in court for whipping mother

A 30-year-old mason, Kofi Bulisa, has appeared before a Takoradi Circuit Court for whipping his 60-year-old mother, Lucy Hackman, for continuously drinking alcohol.

He was charged for assault and causing harm.

The accused pleaded guilty but explained that his mother was always drunk despite several warnings.

He said on that fateful day, the mother was escorted home by a good samaritan, who saw her lying by the roadside intoxicated by alcohol.

The accused also assaulted his brother-in-law, Kwame Appiah.

He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 with two sureties and would re-appear in court on May 9.

Prosecuting, Inspector Seth Ahelegbe, told the court, presided over by Charles Bamfo Nimako that the complainants, Madam Hackman and Appiah, as well as the accused are all residents of Effiakuma, a suburb of Takoradi.

He said on May 2 this month, the accused beat his mother for drinking alcohol, assaulted his younger sister for attempting to prevent him from beating the mother and manhandled the sister’s husband, Appiah during the brawl.

Inspector Ahelegbe said the accused was later overpowered by neighbours and handed over to the police.
