Migration Dialogue For ECOWAS Open In Accra

The European union in conjunction with the International center for migration policy development( ICMPD), Migration Dialogue For West Africa( MIDWA) as well as the International lab our organization( ILO) and (IOM), have opened expert meeting in Accra

The experts from these organization are in Ghana for a two-day-summit that will discuss, among other things, key issues affecting free movement of people and goods in the sub-region. The dialogue, is ongoing at the holiday in hotel, and will also discuss opportunities for trade, legal and finance for ECOWAS citizens.

Commenting on the various trade barriers that undermine smooth intra-regional trade, Economic commissioner for commerce at the ECOWAS COMMISSION Ahmed Hamid, challenged various stake holder in the sub region and call on the media to inform Ecowas citizens about their right of free movement and noted that massive education is required to sensitize the population in the sub region of their rights in the Ecowas integration agreement . ..

According to Hamid , there is the need for people in the sub region to know about their legal obligations so that they can know their legal right . Also present at the dialogue is the regional director of the international office of migration 9IOM) Caemela Godeau, who disclose that as a result of the massive migration of west Africans , it therefore calls for policies on regional and national level to protect people in the region .

The theme for the experts meeting is tagged Free Movement of persons for regional integration and economic cooperation.
