Muslims asked to foster peace with other religions

Muslims in the country have been asked to foster peace with other religious sects to sustain and consolidate national stability.

Sheikh Khalifa Ahmed Abu Faidi Maikano, Spiritual Leader of the Tijanniya Muslim Council, who made the appeal on Friday, said Islam was a peaceful religion and Muslims ought to be more responsive and disciplined to uplift the image of Islam.

He was addressing about thousands of Muslims at the 51st National Quranic Recitation at Prang in the Pru District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

The national Quranic recitation is an event instituted by the late Sheikh Abdulai Maikano Jallo, the first Chief Imam of the Ghana Army, when Muslims across the country and other parts of Africa converged at Prang to recite the Quran and pray for the nation, Africa and the world at large.

Sheikh Maikano said societal, national and world peace needed to be sustained and preserved, and as one of the religions with millions of followers, Muslims ought to live peacefully with one another, and with all people from diverse backgrounds for the glorification of Islam.

He called on Muslims and political leaders to ensure that they are accountable to the people and also create jobs for the youth.

The Sheikh said the instability in South Sudan and the killings of Muslims in the Central Africa Republic required the intervention of the international community to bring lasting and relative peace in those areas.

He expressed his condolences to the people of Malaysia and South Korea for the recent accidents which claimed many lives, and was optimistic that the 2014 world cup would promote peace and social cohesion across the globe.
