The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has complained about the difficulty it is having with office accommodation, and has made an urgent appeal to the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to assist deal with the situation.
The Ashanti Regional Director, Mr. Alhassan Yakubu, said many of its district offices are operating from rented premises and continue to be inundated with ejection orders over unpaid rent.
The structures housing some of the offices are also in such bad shapes that they are a disincentive – a huge drawback on efficient service delivery.
There is not only a real threat to the safety of official documents, but the security of the workers.
Mr. Yakubu was speaking at a meeting with journalists in Kumasi to share with them the operational challenges the Commission was facing.
Their other problem has to do with transport, with just four of the 33 offices in the region, equipped with vehicles that are strong and dependable.
He said these have combined to make things pretty difficult for them, and must have to radically improve.
In spite of the serious limitations, they have been working hard to promote greater discipline in the society, and aid the people to have a better understanding of their civic responsibilities as good citizens.
