Kufuor Leaves For Togo And Ivory Coast

President John Agyekum Kufuor has left for Togo to join fellow Presidents of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Contact Group to discuss the current situation in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Contact Group was formed during the September 29 ECOWAS Summit in Accra.

He was accompanied by Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence and Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister. Press Secretary of the President, Kwabena Agyepong, told the press that leaders of Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria as well as the host would deliberate on how to find a lasting solution to the Ivorian conflict.

Mr Agyepong said the President would then leave for Abidjan to confer with President Laurent Gbagbo on how to resolve the issue to avoid further escalation. The President is expected to return later on Monday.
