Northern group threatens ‘Jihad’ against old SADA board

The Northern Youth for Peace and Development has vowed to declare jihad against the members of the dissolved Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) board if they are not prosecuted.

The director of the Northern-based group in an interview commended the president for overhauling the SADA board, but said the old members of the board must be immediately prosecuted for the mess they created.

The group is hopeful this move will inject new confidence in the programme.

Prince Hardy Adams, speaking to XYZ News, said he will mobilise the youth to go on a protest march if the previous board members aren’t prosecuted.

“…They should be prosecuted; the approach led by Mr. Andani must be prosecuted. It’s quite clear that they have come to mess the three Northern regions.

“[Government] should go ahead and prosecute these people, if not, NYUPED is going to declare jihad on the entire board.

“We shall hold a press conference to ask the President to immediately prosecute the people, if not, we shall declare Jihad on them. The President must immediately sack the acting CEO because he is also part of the mess,” Prince Hardy said.

Meanwhile, Minority lawmakers in Parliament say President Mahama’s decision to change the board members of the Savanah Accelerated Development Authority won’t transform the activities of the embattled institution.

They are calling for institutional restructuring and strengthening of systems at SADA to check corrupt activities.

Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie, the ranking member on agriculture and cocoa affairs, called for the prosecution of former board members whose actions might have resulted in the series of corrupt activities that characterized the authority’s works.
