Ghanaians have been urged to be patriotic to save the nation from economic slavery in the name of foreign aid.
About 200 participants made the call after watching a slide presentation on the “Slave Trade Holocaust as it Pertains to Ghana,” at a lecture organized by the Inner City and Africa Ministry(ICAM), an African-American Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based at Odomase in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The NGO which started in Accra in 1999 and in 2002 established a branch at Odomase, seeks the spiritual and self-sustaining transformation of rural dwellers.
The lecture held at ICAM’s Global Missions’ Chapel, was part of a six-week programme to celebrate ICAM “12”Missions’ Conference Week.
The participants noted that the country’s wealth had been exploited by foreigners, and cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of foreign aid.
They mentioned unhealthy contract agreements with foreign economic partners to the detriment of most Ghanaians.
Dr. Chester Williams, a Black-American and Facilitator of the Conference, urged Africans to regard Black Americans in the Diaspora who might visit Ghana as brothers and sisters, and accord them the necessary assistance they deserved.
Mr. Clifford Kojo Ashun, Lecturer and Historian at the Elmina Castle, in a presentation, recounted the hardships of Africans during the slave trade.
