Four-storey Building Collapses In Accra

An observant fire officer saved hundreds of lives in Accra by evacuating a four-storey building moments before it collapsed. The collapse of the uncompleted building, located near the Central Post Office could have resulted in several deaths and injuries if the fire officer had not organized the evacuation.

Sub-officer Christian Kafui Atsu was just passing by the uncompleted building when he saw that the central pillar had collapsed. He went inside and advised those working inside to get out. He also advised those who had shops around the building and petty hawkers nearby to move away from it. Two minutes after the evacuation, the building collapsed.

The Accra Central Divisional Police has launched investigations into the collapse of the building. This is the second time this week that a building has collapsed in Accra. The first incident, which occurred on Tuesday at East Legon, resulted in the death of a construction worker and injuries to six others.
