Angry Jake fires Frimpong Boateng

Incumbent Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, has described fellow senior party colleague, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng as an absentee member who has contributed virtually nothing towards the party’s growth.

“… I don’t believe you stay away from the place for four years or whatever; you challenge for the leadership, you fail, then we never see you again, then suddenly you emerge and you say that these people have not grown the party. Well, what have you brought to help anybody grow the party? So for me I don’t even want to get into comments about unnecessary opinion.”

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey’s criticism is in response to the heart-surgeon-turned-politician’s recent call to the party’s delegates to vote out both the incumbent Chairman and General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as ‘Sir John’.

According to the former failed flagbearer aspirant of the party, re-electing the two national executives, who, together with other national executives, failed to win victory for the party in the last elections, will cost the NPP another victory. However, Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey told XYZ News that Prof Frimpong Boateng’s criticism is “an opinion”.

“I can point to lots of things that Sir John and I did which has meant that the party has grown since we came into office in 2010.”

In his view, “if Prof Frimpong Boateng was at all interested in any of the things that we were doing, he will possibly have been visiting the party headquarters from time to time in order to interact with Sir John and myself and bring his ideas to help us and to bring his comments and bring his criticism because we can all learn from criticism.”
