Bernard Mornah has bemoaned government’s intention to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) which is envisioned to foster trade among the European Union and African States.
The EPA is a scheme to promote free transaction between European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP).
The European Union (EU) is seeking, under the EPA, reciprocal trade arrangements between it and the ACP countries.
Speaking on Radio Gold’s “Alhaji and Alhaji” programme, the General Secretary of the People’s National Convention expressed disappointment in the Mahama administration for assuring the nation that it will sign the EPA.
According to Bernard Mornah, the decision to sign the EPA may have dire consequences on the economy. He explained that the EPA will not advance the course of the country, but rather give the European countries leverage over the nation.
He said it will create an opportunity for the European States to stifle the economy and so, questioned their interest in the nation.
“Why is the European Union forcing us? Why must they think that they love Africa; they love Ghana, they love Nigeria more than the people themselves?” He asked.
