Ahafo chiefs petition Mahama over ‘Tweaa’ DCE

After being relieved of his position earlier this month, Gabriel Barima, the former Chief Executive of the Ahafo Ano South District, seemed to have won the sympathy of many. Mr Barima was axed by President John Dramani Mahama after invoking the Local Government Act, Section 204, following an interview the Ahafo Ano South DCE granted Joy FM, an Accra-based radio station, over a widely circulated video of him on social media. The video, popularly referred to as ‘Who said Tweaa’, shot Mr Barima to fame as he was seen to angrily react to heckling at a function in the District.

Reports say an eight-man delegation of chiefs was at the presidency to petition Mr Mahama to reinstate Mr Barima.

Traditional authorities in the District are said to have also called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at its head office to have the DCE reinstated.

According to reports, Mr Barima had embarked on a crackdown in the district and that had threatened the livelihood of certain elements including health officials in the district.

His anti-corruption campaign had led to the arrest of the District’s Coordinating Director for diverting over 300 bags of cement belonging to the District.

It is unclear what decision government will take but for President Mahama, Mr Barima failed to read the code of ethics for public officials.
