The Western Regional Police Command has impounded 140 commercial and private vehicles as well as 30 motorbikes in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis for various traffic offences.

The unannounced operation was carried out at various road intersections in the twin-city including, the Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout, Paa Grant Roundabout as well as Ketan, Apowa, Essipon and Fijai roads.

The Regional Public Relations Officer of the Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said the exercise aimed at ensuring sanity in the transport sector.

She explained that the vehicles were impounded for various traffic offences including expired insurance, road worth certificates and income tax documentation while the motorbike riders were arrested for not wearing crash helmet and non-registration of their bikes.

She entreated motorists to always abide by road traffic regulations to ensure safety on the road and avert unwarranted crashes.

ASP Adiku said appropriate sanctions would be meted out to the offenders to serve as deterrent to other motorists, adding that the police would conduct such surprise exercises on regular basis.
