Kofi Jumah fights electoral rigging

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Kofi Jumah says he has an effective plan, which could help prevent rigging of elections in the country.

Explaining further, he said the Electoral Commission (EC) should provide biometric and soft copies of the electoral register to the various political parties that would take part in the polls.

The former chief executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) appealed to the political parties to also make copies of the electoral register available to their polling executives across the country.

He noted that the political parties should direct their polling executives to visit all the houses in their localities with the voter registers.

Mr. Jumah said the polling executives should thoroughly scrutinize the register in the various households.

After the house-to-house tour, the political parties would realize the number of people who are not living in the area, but have their names in the register, he said.

He told Hello FM that if his plan is adhered to by the political parties, particularly the NPP, issues relating to over bloated electoral register would be effectively addressed in 2016.

Mr. Jumah, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged members of the NPP to take the 2016 presidential and parliamentary polls seriously.

The ex-Asokwa MP alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has never won any election conducted in a free and fair manner in the country.

He enumerated the NPP’s interventions which have resulted in crucial political reforms in the country, stressing that the NPP ought to be extra vigilant in order to win the next general elections.
