Community constructs clinic through self-help

Pra River (Ash), March 23, GNA – The chiefs and people of Pra River, a predominantly farming community in the Asante-Akim South District, are building a clinic through self-help, to improve their access to quality healthcare.

Its completion would end the situation where they have to make a round trip of about 15 kilometres to receive medical care at either the Juaso Hospital or the Nnadieso Health Centre.

The people are contributing labour, cash and building materials towards the project.

Dr J. A. Darfour, Secretary of the Planning Committee overseeing the implementation, said at a ceremony to mark the official commencement of construction work that they had targeted to spend not less than GH¢60,000.

He said some individuals had already made available some bags of cement and bundles of roofing sheets in support of it.

He appealed to the district assembly to assist them to carry through the project.

Mr De-graft Forkuo, District Chief Executive (DCE), scored high marks to the people for the initiative, and pledged the assembly’s support

For a start, the assembly has presented 50 bags of cement.

He noted that the clinic would not only serve the health needs of people at Pra River, but those in a number of surrounding farming communities, and that was why all should work together to bring it to fruition.
