We must restructure our economy – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has called for a restructuring and diversification of the country’s economy.

According to him, the status quo – which is dependent on cocoa and gold – will make the country suffer anytime there is fall in prices of those two commodities, the country’s major foreign exchange earners.

“Building a modern economy, adding value to our products, means new jobs for our youth, a stringer country and a good future for our children,” President Mahama stated on his official Facebook Page on Monday.

He said the country cannot have only one growth pole between Accra and Tema.

“We need more growth poles, in Ashanti, Eastern Region, Volta Region and, of course, Western Region has to become a significant growth pole.”

President Mahama indicated that that point was made clear to the people of the Western Region on his recent three-day tour.

He added that by the creation of many growth poles, Ghanaians can head towards any region for opportunities.
