Mr. Joseph Yaw Owusu, a former senior editor of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has commended the government for taking timely and bold step in stopping the collection of tolls on the University of Ghana, Legon, rehabilitated roads.
Speaking to the press on the issue at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region, Mr. Owusu described the move as decisive, excellent and commendable.
He said that if for nothing at all, the steps the government initiated had gone a long way to perpetually bury the numerous misunderstandings which the issue attracted, including the time-consuming Supreme Court writ filled by two students of the university against the authorities of the school.
Mr. Owusu expressed the hope that the action taken by the government would strengthen the co-operation, mutual understanding, unity and the bond of friendship that exist between the university authorities and the student body.
It would, no doubt, assist both the university authorities and the students to concentrate on their administrative and other vital academic plans and programmes designed individually and collectively to maintain the excellent position the university has held for many years.
The country, Mr. Owusu further stated, required absolute peace, unity, co-operation and understanding of all citizens, irrespective of one’s political and other affiliations, to face the numerous socio-economic challenges.
He was optimistic that the government would do everything possible to fulfill its promise to absorb every expenditure incurred on the University of Ghana roads rehabilitation works by the authorities of the university to encourage them to do more in future.
Mr. Owusu praised the management of the University of Ghana for accepting government’s offer.
