The Weija Water Treatment Plant has been shut down again.
This comes days last week’s shutdown, which resulted in heavy water shortage across the country’s capital, Accra.
The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has, however, blamed the recent shutdown on the absence of power supply to the Weija area.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana has shutdown the Mallam substation just to help them undertake maintenance works there,” Michael Agyemang, the Chief Public Relations Manager of GWCL, explained to TV3’s Sandra Amarquaye.
“So because of that, we are also off,” Mr Agyemang said.
Asked whether the Company had no energy generating plant to supply power to its station, Mr Agyemang said the Company’s generator is not powerful enough to “give us the power to operate”.
As a result of the shutdown, he said consumers in the precincts of the Treatment Plant will experience acute shortage of water.
He, however, advised them to store enough water as the Company is planning to undertake a rationing exercise until ECG completes its work.
