Komfo Anokye Hospital probes man’s death

Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi (KATH) has set up a five- member committee to probe the death of a 46-year-old referral patient.

The deceased, Solomon Mensah, was said to have been rushed to the facility on February 12 for the treatment of strangulated hernia, but the required surgery was not performed and he died two days on.

A signed statement by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Kwame Frimpong, said the Committee is to establish whether or not the man’s death was the result of negligence.

It is expected to submit its report on March 10, and will question members of the surgical team that admitted the patient on that day.

The statement said the setting up of the Committee was consistent with the established grievance resolution and disciplinary procedures of the hospital, adding that, its recommendations would be implemented to the letter.
