School dragged to court over filth

The proprietress of Kings and Queens International School at Nkawie in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District has been dragged to court over poor environmental sanitation.

Joyce Kyereme, 54, pleaded not guilty to the accusation and was granted GH¢15,000.00 bail by the Nkawie Circuit Court presided over by Mr. William Boampong to make the next appearance on Wednesday, February 26.

Mr. Austin Dubick, District Environmental Health Officer, said her prosecution was in response to complaints by people living near the school.

He said waste disposed by the school had become a public health hazard and that several warnings to get her to do things right had not been heeded to.

He added that the overpowering stench from an open drain into which the school had been dumping its waste was simply intolerable, attracting large army of flies.
