Disabled Society Formed In Nkoranza

Nkoranza (Brong Ahafo Region), 13 Sept.,

A branch of the Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled has been formed at Nkoranza with a membership of 45. A seven-member interim management committee (IMC) has been set up to manage the society in the district. At a meeting at Nkoranza yesterday, the IMC chairman and headmaster of Nkoranza Catholic Junior Secondary School, Mr. Francis Effah-Guakro, said the members have come together to seek their welfare and to assist other needy persons to undertake income- generating activities. Mr. Effah-Guakro decried the attitude of parents who deny their disabled children formal education and advised them to give equal attention to these less-fortunate ones because they have talents which should be exploited for the benefit of society. He was not happy about how some disabled persons beg for alms and advised them to learn a trade such as dress-making, hairdressing, shoe-making or auto-mechanic to earn a decent living.
