NADMO receives items for Adjei-kojo victims

The Tema Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), on Monday received relief items worth GH¢6,000 for distribution to victims of the Adjei-Kojo demolition exercise.

The items which included 100 pieces of blankets, 100 pieces of mosquito nets, 50 crates of soft drinks, 150 bags of sachet water and six bales of used clothing were presented by Mr. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, Chief Executive Officer of Carloking Services.

About four weeks ago, the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) undertook a demolition exercise at Adjei-Kojo and its environs in the Tema West Constituency.

The exercise saw over 150 structures demolished, thus rendering about 700 families homeless, and now living at the mercy of the weather.

Aljia Zeinab Abdulai, Tema Metropolitan Coordinator of NADMO, who received the items on behalf of the victims, thanked Mr. Ahenkorah for the gesture.

Aljia Abdulai said even though government provided some relief items for the victims when the incident occurred, it was not enough. She, therefore, appealed to organizations and philanthropists to come to the aid of the victims.

Mr. Ahenkorah equated the plight of the victims to that of a national disaster due to the displacement of the victims.

He said his gesture was in response to Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive’s plea to individuals to donate to the victims.
