The bond imposed on Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Hopeson Adorye, a member of the party, to be of good behavior, expired Friday, February 14, 2014.
The two were bonded for six months after being slapped with a fine totaling GH¢7,000 for contempt against the Supreme Court.
Mr Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, was cited for contempt after castigating the President of the nine-member panel that heard the landmark election petition, Justice William Atuguba, on Adom FM, an Accra-based radio station.
Sir John was reported to have referred to Justice Atuguba as a god.
“I thought you will show some power here,” the Supreme Court judge dared Sir John on August 14, 2013, when the two with their lawyer Ayikoi Otoo appeared before the panel.
“My Lords, I am humbled by this baptism of fire,” Sir John told the bench after receiving reprimands from the judges.
The Supreme Court ruling – 15 days after Sir John and Mr Adorye were fined – re-affirmed the presidency of John Dramani Mahama.
