Audited accounts into the administration of the Copyright Society of Ghana have revealed that out of about ?364.3 million collected as royalties in 1997 alone, only ?120.8 million was accounted for. About ?243.5 million has not been accounted for. The audited accounts is a breakdown of royalties collected by the Copyright office when the current administrator, Bernard Bosumprah was in charge as both Executive Director of COSGA and also as Copyright Administrator.
The amounts were paid by video theatres, broadcasting organisations, mobile DJs among others. According to music industry operators, the discovery of the discrepancies in the audited accounts strengthens their demands that the copyright office be probed from its inception 14 years ago till date.
Since the creation of the copyright office, it has been handled by Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, a Chief State Attorney and Nana Bosumprah. The music industry operators have called on government to probe the various administrations of the Copyright Office including the tenure of Betty Mould Iddrisu, Bosumpra, the late Joe Mensah and the present board headed by Alhaji Sidiku Buari.
