Prof Martey takes on ‘school boy’ ministers, MPs

The Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has criticized Parliamentarians and Ministers of State who abandon their jobs to attend school.

“How can you hold a governing position, live your office and go to school? Is Ghana short of graduates?” the Moderator questioned.

Rt. Rev. Prof. Martey said this while delivering a sermon to mark the dedication of an ultra-modern structure put up by the Epiphany Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Wa.

He stated that, “certain jobs and positions are not for students,” and that such a way of shirking responsibilities on the part of some Parliamentarians and Ministers contribute to low productivity, translating into lack of cash for payment of workers.

“Do not get me wrong, I am not speaking against high academic pursuit and capacity building, but there are certain jobs that are not for boys and girls,” he noted.

“Do not get me wrong, I am not also against young people contributing their quota, because there are a lot of young entrepreneurs who are doing very well in their areas of speciality, and must be given the chance to do so,” the Moderator added.

Rt. Rev. Prof. Martey, therefore, called on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho, and Her Ladyship, Chief Justice Georgina Wood, to rise up and act quickly to salvage the country from such acts of nation-thwarting activities.

The Moderator of the PCG also urged Christians to be the salt and the light of the world by bringing the necessary advise to the people, in order to cause the necessary change in attitudes, beliefs and practices that are inimical to the development of the nation.
