University of Energy undertakes massive infrastructural projects

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in the Brong-Ahafo Region is undertaking massive infrastructural projects at its Sunyani Campus.

The projects, being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) at the cost of GH¢ 4,213,000, comprises a two-storey Library and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, four laboratories and a three-storey building lecture theater.

The Library and the ICT Centre is valued at GH¢ 1.9 million, the laboratory project is GH¢ 513,000, while the lecture theatre is also GH¢ 1.8 million.

This came to light on Thursday when Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Tertiary Education led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs Esi Awuah, Deans, Heads of Departments (HoDs) and other officials of the University, inspected projects being undertaken at the Sunyani Campus, as part of the former’s one-day working visit to the UENR.

Earlier, Mr. Ablakwa who undertook the visit on behalf of the sector minister, Professor Mrs Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has visited the Nsoatre project site in the Sunyani-West District, as well as the site for the Dormaa-Ahenkro Campus in the Derma Central Municipality, to acquaint himself with developments at the university.

The projects, started in November 2013, are scheduled for completion in August this year, Prof. Mrs Awuah said, adding that besides offices for lecturers, the lecture theatre has capacity to take 900 students because it has nine classrooms for 100 students each.

The Vice-Chancellor later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said, “the Deputy Minister’s visit has been a source of inspiration by assuring us of government’s support of our infrastructural programme which are very essential for every University”.

Mr Ablakwa expressed satisfaction about the infrastructural projects, and the fast pace of the university’s development.
