Tension mounts in Apolonia

Tension is high in Apolonia, a town within the Kpone Katamanso District, following the secret installation of a new chief.

It is rumoured among the indigenes of the town that the current chief, Nii Teye Adumuah II, who has been ill for some time now, has died; hence arrangement by some group of persons who secretly installed a new chief to serve their parochial interest.

A visit to the area on Saturday morning prior to the installation of the new chief revealed illegal barricade mounted by some land guards who wore blue tops with the inscription ‘Security’ boldly written behind them, who were apparently conducting checks and interrogating persons who moved to and from the town.

The move is believed to be a measure put in place by the group to stop any group of persons from demonstrating against the illegal installation to mar the secret event.

A 45-year-old driver and indigene of the town who only gave his name as Zakari explained that their lives are in danger as the land guards are terrorising and robbing them of their belongings in the town day and night.

Some of the indigenes who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged the land guards were purportedly brought into the area by one businessman by name Daniel Tetteh, a.k.a. Dan T, who apparently has acquired some 3,000 acres of land in the area and is using them to guard his property.

They said it was about time government intervened in matters and issues going on in Apolonia, given that there could be bloodshed.

They said it is unfortunate that some high-profile politicians are engineering the illegalities of these persons who have installed a new chief secretly without the knowledge of the kingmakers of Apolonia.

An elder of one of the ruling clans and kingmaker in the area, Seth Gbli Nartey of Kojo Clan, also noted he has no idea of the installation and that the earlier the police and national security stop the illegalities of these people, the better it would be for all.
