A member of the Government’s Communication Machinery has strongly differed with the position of an NDC stalwart, Dr Tony Aidoo, that beyond Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah the country has never had a visionary leader.
To him, if Dr Tony Aidoo’s remarks are anything to go by, then every NDC member who has had the opportunity of serving in the administrations of Messrs Rawlings and late Mills, and that of the current administration including him (Tony Aidoo) needs to bow down their heads in shame.
The outspoken NDC leading member, on Wednesday, decried the unsteady pace of development in the country saying, to him, Ghana’s failure to achieve desirable development after 56 years of independence was because the country lacked a strong philosophical foundation.
Tony Aidoo, who was recently nominated Ambassador-designate and previously headed government’s Policy Monitoring and Evaluation unit, noted that the inability of the educational sector to meet the challenges of the job market was because the country faced the difficulty of providing qualitative training for the up-and-coming youth.
“There is a total mismatch between our educational system and our nation building effort… Our human resource is so handicapped because the system of knowledge being imparted is fundamentally flawed,” he said.
He further noted that the drawback in the developmental efforts of the country was also due to the lack of a philosophy for economic growth and development.
But reacting to the position of the NDC activist, Alhaji Mohammed Naziru averred on “Ghana Decides” program on Okay Fm that the stance of the Former Deputy Minister of Defense in the erstwhile Rawlings’ administration casts a slur on his (Aidoo’s) integrity as his comments suggest that he could not contribute any philosophical vision as a leader while in office under Former President Rawlings.
“….there is no doubt that Dr. Tony Aidoo is a learned person in the country who has served under Rawlings and the late Mills’ administrations respectively, and if the assumption that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah alone has been the visionary leader in the country, then I am sorry to say that he should join those who have had to serve under any government to bow down their heads in shame for failing to impart their vision to the development of the country,” he opined.
He was of the view that the country would have gone back to the Stone Age period if no positive vision was initiated by any past leader beyond Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
“…I disagree with Dr. Tony Aidoo because the country has moved from the era where there was only one University and food was scarce to find. We now rub shoulders with many foreign countries….if there is no vision among our leaders apart from Nkrumah then the country should be in the Stone Age era by now. Though we could have done better with development, what we should be asking ourselves is what is pulling us backwards? People are rather looking up to persons like Dr. Tony Aidoo to do something different in the country with his knowledge,” he asserted.
