Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has commended the Committee which was set up to investigate the rot at the Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) modules a couple of years ago for working assiduously to uncover the corruptible practices that were carried out in the programme.
Though commending the Committee, she however wondered why government stood aloof and looked on for some companies to take advantage of the opportunities created by GYEEDA and abused the system.
Speaking on Oman FM’s political analysis programme, Hon. Ursula Owusu blamed the Mahama government for the developments that led to the huge financial impropriety and malfeasance on the part of the companies which were contracted under the programme.
To her, the ‘problems’ associated with the programme were created by the governing National Democratic Congress itself which in her earnest view, believed should it be given the opportunity to “attach a meter to the air we breathe before we inhale, they would do it. If they could tax the air we breathe, they would tax it. Everything conceivable under the sun has been increased.”
Government has terminated all service contracts between GYEEDA and its service providers.
This follows a strident public outburst over the malfeasance and misdemeanor by the companies in the deal.
The contracts that have been cancelled include Rlg Communication’s training module, Asongtaba Cottage Industry & Exchange Programme (ACI&EP) and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group, the parent company of Zoomlion.
A letter signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu, disclosed that the decision was reached during a series of meetings between government and the parties involved.
