A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a mason to nine months imprisonment in hard labour for hitting another person in the head with a hammer.
This was after Daniel Adjei, 49, had pleaded guilty to the charge of causing harm.
Police Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang told the court presided over by Mr William Boampong that the crime followed a dispute over the convict’s refusal to give to the victim, Eric Tawiah, his share of money paid for a job they jointly undertook.
They are both masons at Ahenema-Kokoben near Kumasi and had worked as partners on a building project.
In October last year Tawiah approached him to demand his part of the money earned but the convict grew furious. He later picked a chisel and a hammer and attempted knocking down a portion of a room where the victim had been living.
The prosecution said as Tawiah tried to restrain him, Adjei smashed him in the head with the hammer. Still seething with anger he went for a big stick to cause further bodily harm but some neighbours overpowered him and the incident was reported to the police.
