Driver remanded for defilement

A Circuit Court in Accra on Friday remanded into custody a driver, Kweku Atuobi for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old pupil.

Charged with defilement, Atuobi, 35, has pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah.

He is to reappear on January 29.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant was a 42-year-old trader and the mother of the victim. The victim and her mother reside at Agape down, Anyaa, a suburb of Accra.

Prosecution said between 2012 and 2013, Atuobi a co-tenant, defiled the victim in his room and toilet respectively.

Also during November this year whiles the victim and younger sister were sent on an errand, Atuobi saw them and managed to lure them into his house.

According to prosecution, Atuobi intentionally sent the victim’s younger sister and defiled the victim in his room.

When the victim’s younger sister arrived, she saw her sister dressing up. Both the victim and younger sister did not disclose the matter to anyone.

However, on December 26, last year, when a misunderstanding ensued between the victim and her younger sister that the younger sister let the cat out of the bag.

The complainant confronted the victim who made her ordeal known to her and mentioned that Atuobi had defiled her three times and he has asked her not to tell else she will die.

Prosecution said the complainant therefore reported the matter to the Police and a medical form was issued to the victim so she could be examined and treated.

The matter was, however, referred to the Odorkor Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) and Atuobi was arrested.
