Ghanaians commended for comportment

The Right Reverend Kofi Asare Bediako, Methodist Bishop of Sunyani, has commended Ghanaians for their comportment before, during and after the August 29 Supreme Court Verdict of the 2012 Presidential Election Petition.

He said such an incident was just enough fuel for any other country to have been plunged into war, but that case passed off as if nothing was happening in the country, saying that “as we give thanks to God on the occasion of Christmas, we also commend every Ghanaian for that historic political feat”.

Rt. Rev. Bediako made the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on pertinent national issues, such as peace and national development, among others, as his Christmas message to Ghanaians on Tuesday in Sunyani.

Bishop Bediako observed that landmark judicial precedent “gives us the belief that the country is maturing in our socio-political endeavours” but “we still want to work at peace because attainment of peace is not just one time event” he added.

“We promote and work at it, nurture and allow it to blossom” because every individual’s action is valued in relation to the vital question about its promotion or contribution to achieving “the peace that we want”, the Sunyani Methodist Bishop said.

Rt. Rev. Bediako therefore posed the question, as Ghanaians are our actions promoting peace in every segment of the society? , insisting that our workplaces, family lives and every facet of our lives, must be evaluated on the scale of peace-building and achievement of national peace and cohesion.

He implied that “peace is never granted on a silver platter but it is our collective action that determines whether we are seeking peace or destabilizing our hamlets, villages, communities and the country at large”.
