Rotary Club donates to orphanage in Sowutuom

The Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, on Saturday donated assorted items worth 2,000 Ghana Cedis, and amount of 1,600 Ghana Cedis, to Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer Orphanage at Sowutuom in Accra.

The items included, toys, milks, indomie noodles, cooking oil, soap, bags of rice, books, pens, pencils, boxes of sugar, canned fish, toiletries, soft drinks, camel and sasso insecticide.

Presenting the items, Mr Victor Asante, the immediate past president of the club, said the donation formed part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility and contribution to help the needy, and to make life a little more comfortable for the less-unfortunate people in society.

He said it was to make the children happy as well as show them love during this festive season, and promised that the club would continue to support the children.

Sister Grace Antonia Ashianor, care taker of the Home who received the items, thanked the club for the kind gesture, and said the donation would make life more comfortable for the children during the Christmas festivities.

She said it was regrettable that most of the needy children in the community crack stones and do all sort of things which children were not supposed to do for a living and sometimes the females among them are being raped and others also involve themselves in bad activities, “so that is why we have gathered them here to take care of them”.

Sister Ashianor, therefore, called on other corporate bodies and philanthropists to emulate such a benevolent act.

She also urged the society to love and care for the needy.
