Many well meaning Ghanaians have kicked against vindictive politicking explaining that it does not encourage the practice of democracy.
Adding his voice to calls for decorous politicking, the People’s National Convention (PNC) General Secretary, Bernard Mornah, advised political players to uphold the tenets of democracy for sustainable development.
His comment is informed by happenings in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) where party stalwart who openly criticize the current leadership of the party is either invited by its disciplinary body or dragged to the cleaners via the media.
At a forum organized by the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy Alumni of the NPP in Kumasi, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku asked party supporters to elect what he called ‘a right leader’ to ensure victory in the 2016 elections.
The former Minister of Trade in the erstwhile Kufuor administration further advocated for a possible change of flagbearer if the NPP relishes hopes of coming back to power in 2016.
Dr. Arthur Kennedy had also stated that the NPP is not a “birthright” or a preserve of some individuals, therefore, all interested persons who wish to contest the position must be given equal opportunity to contest.
A founding member of the party, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, is also reported to have said the recent spate of personal attacks and name calling within the NPP must cease.
These comments attracted vilification from party supporters and sympathizers.
It is in the wake of these developments that the PNC General Secretary is entreating the opposition NPP to revisit its ideological position as a liberal democratic party and bring party supporters to order.
Bernard Mornah also counseled that the allegations of corruption in the current leadership made by the Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong, should be interrogated as it demonstrates that the electorates cannot entrust the destiny of the country into the hands of the NPP.
