Mahama Has Laid A “Solid Foundation” On Corruption

National Youth Organizer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Emmanuel Atefuah Danso has pooh-poohed at President John Dramani Mahama’s “solid foundation” he has laid for the economy statement saying the only “solid foundation” the president has laid for this country is based on corruption.

President Mahama, last Wednesday, at the Peduase Lodge, told the Council of State that his government will build on the foundation laid in 2013 by continuing “those policy initiatives that we want to pursue to ginger the Ghanaian private sector in terms of local content, in terms of using government’s procurement power to empower the Ghanaian private sector and so many other initiatives”.

Hinting about what to expect next year, in terms of developing the economy, President Mahama said: “We think that it is time to diversify our country’s economy.”

But Atefuah Danso, the president’s assertions of a solid foundation of the economy since he (Mahama) has been in charge of the economic management of the country when he served as Vice President under the leadership of the late President Mills.

“…if the President says he has laid solid foundation, I find it ridiculous because he was in charge of the economic management of the country when he was serving as the Vice President during the reign of the late President Mills…..what was the state of that foundation when he was in charge? Does he want to tell us that he did not see any economic foundation when he took over the administration?” he quizzed.

Speaking on OkayFM, he described as “laughable” President Mahama’s remarks that “we think that it is time to diversify our country’s economy”; saying the President in coming out with such expressions since Nana Akufo Addo pontificated over a year ago of an economic transformational agenda during the electoral campaign season.

He further posited that President Mahama’s solid foundation which has been laid throughout this year has to do more with corruption and not economy.

“…where is the economic foundation the President is talking about when all that he has done is to watch his people create, loot and share the existing monies made under President Kufuor’s administration among them?” he asked. FRANK OBIMPEH
