Ugandan delegation calls on Interior Minister

General Nyakairima Aronda, Ugandan Minister of Internal Affairs who is leading a six-member delegation to Ghana, on Friday paid a courtesy call on Mr Kwesi Awhoi, Minister of Interior at his office in Accra.

Gen. Aronda and his delegation are in the country to learn from their Ghanaian counterpart the best practices towards the setting up of a National Identification Process and Immigration System in Uganda.

The Ugandan delegation would also meet officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) as well as visit the Ghana Immigration Academy and Training School at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

Gen. Aronda said Uganda was undertaking a mass registration of its nationals towards the provision of a national identification card.

He said the delegation was in Ghana to study from the NIA the best practices and challenges as well as the lessons they could learn to benefit the Ugandan exercise towards having a national identification card.

He said the group would also learn from Ghana the efficiency and effectiveness of its migration system.

Gen. Aronda said the delegation had been given good briefing by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on disaster preparedness and the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) on their mandate and operations.

He said his country would continue to interact with Ghana on how to manage natural disasters that countries face on the African continent.

Mr Kwesi Awhoi said as part of the African integration progress, it is good for countries on the continent to learn best practices from each other.

He said since both countries had similar Ministry and agencies, systems and organizations under them could be looked at in terms of what they have either to amend their system to adopt ours or vice versa.
