Ursula: Akufo-Addo towers above all NPP aspirants

Ablekuma West Legislator, Ursula Owusu Ekuful says the main opposition New Patriotic Party’s two-time presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, towers above all other presidential aspirants seeking to lead the party into the 2016 elections.

“…I’m biased and I will always, in any contest that he stands, I will vote for him, and that is without apologies to all the others who may be contesting or it’s not a reflection of their competence or incompetence but we really want to pick the man who in our estimation will best guarantee us a shot at the Presidency, and so right now, from where I sit, nobody has convinced me that anyone else can do it better than he can”, Owusu Ekuful said Saturday.

The NPP will be electing its flagbearer ahead of the 2016 elections in March 2014.

Nana Akufo-Addo is yet to announce his intentions to become the party’s presidential candidate for the third consecutive time.

He’s been cooling off in London since Ghana’s Supreme Court ruled against him and two others, in an election petition, which run for eight months.

Former Aspirants Alan Kyeremanten and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku have expressed interest in running again. Other aspirants are expected to join the race soon.

In Ursula Owusu Ekuful’s opinion, the former Attorney General, and none other else, holds the trump card for the NPP’s 2016 electoral victory.

“Who is the best candidate for the NPP to present in the next election? Everybody admits that Nana Akufo-Addo, if he decides to contest, is the man to beat. Why? He’s a household name. He’s demonstrated his mettle.

“He’s shown that despite all the mud that has been thrown at him, he can by one or two singular actions, dispel all the negatives inferences that have been made about him and his conduct and he’s shown that he can command the respect of the people of Ghana and people will look up to him and say that ‘this man really does have the nation at heart’”.

“Nana has been more thoroughly examined than most people in this country…and has always come back standing on his feet,” she told Joy FM Saturday.
