Mr. I.K. Opoku-Ntiamoah, Commissioner for Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) has following press reports concerning the non-payment of import duities by Messrs. Tondi (Ghana) Limited, taken action and seized vehicles and property belonging to the company. It would be recalled that in the past few weeks, The Crusading Guide has been carrying exposes on how Messrs Tondi (Ghana) Limited had accrued a tax penalty of almost two billion cedis.
Though the service allowed the company some grace period in which to sell some of its goods from a bonded warehouse to defray the indebtedness, the company treated the service with contempt. Mr. Ntiamoah is said to be sending a message to all defaulters that in the coming weeks the axe would be falling on them too. For the avoidance of doubt, the service is taking advertisers announcements in the local media.
