Minister presents vehicles to Coordinating Councils

The Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development, through the District Development Facility (DDF) secretariat, has donated five station wagon vehicles to the five Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs).

The five Regions are the Eastern, Upper East, Upper West, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti.

Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, the sector Minister, said the donation was to enable the RCCs discharge their duties and responsibilities of coordinating and monitoring the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA) effectively.

Mr Oppong-Fosu said the presentation brought to eight station wagon vehicles adding that Northern and Greater Accra would receive their vehicles by the middle of 2014.

“As a ministry, we are aware of the enormous responsibilities placed on RCCs to support the MMDAs to implement various development activities in various communities,” he added.

The minister advised the RCCs to ensure that the MMDAs deliver quality services to the people in line with their legitimate mandate.

He also urged them to adhere to the laid down procedures in awarding contracts and in the procurements of goods and services.

Mr Oppong-Fosu said the contributors to the DDF are Government of Ghana, Government of Denmark, Government of Germany, Government of France, Government of Canada and Government of Switzerland.

Dr Martin Lux, Representative of Development Partners supporting DDF, said their outfits were happy to support and deepen the decentralisation process and improve the performance of all MMDAs in discharging their mandates.

Mr Joseph Donkor, Ashanti Regional, Economic and Planning Officer, on behalf of the beneficiary thanked the Ministry and the Development Partners.
