Farmer in court for causing unlawful damage

Lawrence Nyiamaoh Boateng, a 62-year-old farmer, was arraigned before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court for unlawfully causing damage to a building under construction.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody to re-appear before the Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, on December 22.

Police Chief Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainant, Alexander Gyasi, was a bursar at Abirem Senior High School and a resident of Abirem.

He said on October 22, at about 0700 hours, the complainant engaged a mason together with his labourers to put up a single bedroom with its ancillaries.

But after the mason had built up to the lintel level, Boateng, who claimed that the complainant had encroached on his plot, pulled down all the blocks.

Gyasi, who had spent Ghc3,800.00 on the building, reported the case to the police and Boateng was arrested.
