Dr. Opuni will frustrate local companies at COCOBOD – John Kumah

John Kumah, NPP Youth Activist, has expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama for assigning a new role to the former Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Chief Executive, Dr. Stephen K. Opuni.

Dr. Stephen K. Opuni was appointed new Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

He replaces Anthony Fofie who commences his leave prior to the expiration of his contract at the end of the year.

But according to John Kumah, Dr. Opuni’s appointment does not give hope to indigenous companies in the nation.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, he expressed worry over his (Dr. Opuni’s) new assignment, claiming that he has been frustrating Ghanaian businessmen. He alluded to the feud between Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited and the Food and Drugs Authority under the aegis of Dr. Opuni.

To him, the cocoa sector is a sensitive sector which derives lots of benefits for the nation and so, the caliber of persons such as Dr. Opuni may affect the survival of the economy.

“I don’t see him doing better there because this is one man who has been frustrating Ghanaian companies.

“Clearly, if you take such a man to an extremely sensitive industry like the cocoa sector, look, the cocoa sector is extremely important to the economic survival of this country. And I don’t see why President wants to move a man like Dr. Opuni to COCOBOD. I was very disappointed with that announcement,” John Kumah said.
