Kpegah petitions Mahama to remove CJ

Retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Francis Y. Kpegah, has petitioned President John Mahama to remove Chief Justice Georgina Wood.

Kpegah, who filed a similar petition to late President John Mills in 2010, argues in the latest petition that the Chief Justice is abusing her discretionary powers in transferring and promoting Judges.

His Counsel, David Annan, told XYZ News that the latest petition to President Mahama is meant to serve as a reminder to the Presidency.

According to him, Justice Kpegah wants the president to investigate the “manner and conduct” of the Chief Justice in “promoting and transferring” some High Court Judges.

He said the president has no option than to act on the petition.

“We are awaiting the response of the president. It’s a very serious matter. If you look at Article 1466 of the 1992 Constitution, it details the procedure; the president doesn’t have any discretion in this matter. It’s obligatory for him to proceed and therefore that is what we are waiting for him to do”, Annan said.
