UPSA to host African University Day with Public Lecture

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) will on Tuesday November 12, 2013, host this year’s version of the annual African University Day with a public lecture on the theme: “C*hanging Higher Education landscape in Africa: Highlighting Success stories.”*

Vice-Chancellors, Presidents and Higher Education Managers from all the the public and private universities in Ghana, as well as other tertiary education institutions, non-higher education institutions, and other higher education stakeholders are expected to participate in the event to mark the day.

The Africa University Day is held on *November 12* every year with various education related activities by Universities, which are members of the AAU.

The Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education Professor Mahama Duwiejua would be the main Speaker at the event.

Since 2000, the Secretariat of the AAU, based in Accra, Ghana in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Vice Chancellors, Ghana (VCG), have organized various events to commemorate the day, including lectures, conferences and exhibitions.

The previous editions of the AU Day were observed at the following venues:

· The University of Education, Winneba hosted the African University Day in 2006 under the theme* Education for Sustainable Development. *

· In 2007, which was the fortieth anniversary of the AAU, the University Ghana hosted the African University Day under the theme,* Forty years of Championing African University Leadership: *Prospects and Challenges for the Near Future.

In 2008, the University Ghana hosted the African University Day under the theme, *Sustainable Development in Africa: The Role of Higher Education. *

· In 2009, the theme for the African University Day was* African Universities: Linkages with the Productive Sector.* It was held as a public event at the Holiday Inn, Accra.

· In 2010: the theme for the African University Day was* The Contribution of African Universities to the Achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).* It was held as a public event at the Holiday Inn.
