FUSSAG blames FWSC for labour unrest

The Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) has blamed the heightening labour agitations on the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC).

Mr Jacob Emmanuel Eshun, General Secretary of FUSSAG said the FWSC contravened the Government White Paper, which spelled out modalities for the payment of Market Premium.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra on Monday, he said the White Paper states: “Market premiums should be used to attract and retain critical skills which are in short supply”.

He said however, not all jobs within a particular service classification will be eligible.

“To avoid abuse of this facility, clear guidelines for identifying jobs, which qualify for market premiums will be developed and reviewed periodically.”

Mr Eshun said the guidelines has not been developed neither a survey for identifying qualified jobs have been done.
