Illegal miners jailed over bicycle theft

The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced an illegal miner, Michael Gyasi, to four years imprisonment in hard labour over the theft of a bicycle valued at Ghc250.00.

He was convicted after he had pleaded guilty to the crime of stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Obeng told the court presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante that the complainant, Hanson Osei, and Gyasi lived in the same neighbourhood at Odumase.

The complainant had locked and parked the bicycle in front of his house as he went to sleep on October 1, at about 2100 hours.

He woke up the next morning only to discover that the bicycle had been stolen and suspected Gyasi of the theft.

He caused his arrest and he confessed to the offence.

The convict said he sold the bicycle for Ghc60.00 but refused to lead the police to the buyer.
