Ashanti Goldfields Company robbed

The Nyinahin Police in the Ashanti Region have mounted an intensive search for a gang of eight armed men who robbed an Ashanti Goldfield Company (AGC) tipper truck loaded with gold ore at Akorabokrom on the Nkawie-Bibiani road last Sunday.

The gang made away with a quantity of ore being hauled from AGC’s concession in the Mpasatia area to the AGC mine at Bibiani for processing. Police source said that the tipper truck developed a mechanical fault on its journey from Mpasatia to Bibiani on Saturday, with the load.

At about 1 a,m. the next day, eight armed men, wearing mask arrived on board a saloon car and attacked the driver’s mate. After manhandling him, the men bolted with a quantity of the ore.

In another development, three armed men, seized a taxi from its driver, Kwaku Poku, at Fankyenebra, near Santasi at about 10 a.m. on the same day. The cab was later found abandoned at Suame Magazine with the radio-cassette player removed.
