NMC investigates bribery allegations against Asantehene

The National Media Commission (NMC) has initiated investigation into recent allegations that Asantehene facilitated bribery of Supreme Court judges to influence judgment in the 2012 election petition.

According to the Commission Chairman, Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, the investigation followed a complaint filed by the Asanteman Council on the New Free Press online publication.

Speaking at the re-launch of the Independent newspaper in Kumasi, Ambassador Blay-Amihere noted that the NMC is investigating the complaint and will make its findings public at the appropriate time.

The Commission Chairman therefore called for utmost protection for institutions such as the Presidency, Judiciary, Chieftaincy, Religion and Parliament; as they hold the country together.

“What holds this country together is the rule of law and there are institutions that we must protect and guard”.

He further cautioned the media to be careful and circumspect in reporting issues so as not to undermine the structures that hold the country together.
