Kufuor can never control NPP – Akufo-Addo faction boasts

The battle line seems to have been drawn in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as factionalism between its two opposing blocs deepens.

The Akufo-Addo-leaning Akyem faction within the NPP has been boasting that ex-President John Agyekum Kofi Diawuo Kufuor and his Asante group can never control the party.

Speaking to The Informer, a source from the Nana Addo Kyebi mafia explains “when Kufuor was President between January 7th 2001 and January 7th 2009, he never sought to build the party he wants to control today.

If you recalled, a former Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Haruna Esseku, having once bitterly complained about the way and manner the party had been starved of funding”.

The source said “what even annoyed a lot of people in the party was his open support for one of the seventeen (17) leading members, who were contesting the 2007 presidential primaries of the party.

The former president was reckless; sacking all political appointees who did not support his choice of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen”.

It also confirmed media reports that, if Nana Addo will run, he will certainly go with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his running-mate for the third consecutive time. But if Nana decides not to run, the Akufo-Addo group’s choice is Bawumia, with Ken Ofori-Atta as his running-mate.

The source pointed out further that, most of the publications in The Informer are to the point, and added “now many members of the NPP read The Informer to know the true happenings in the NPP”.

It was responding to comments by the ex-President Kufuor Asante group, warning the Akufo-Addo camp not to attempt putting forward a candidate to contest for the flagbearership slot of the NPP, having woefully failed after two election defeats.
