Vocational institute assists needy girls

The SprecJoe Vocational Training Institute at Agona Swedru has offered scholarships to 40 deprived girls from Ekumfi Eyisam to pursue courses in nursing at the Kings Nursing Training College in Accra.

It is also sponsoring 35 needy girls from Agona, Awutu and Effutu Municipalities to pursue fashion designing at the same college.

Mrs Elena Dzordzegbe, Chief Executive Officer (CEO of the Institute made this known to newsmen at Agona Swedru.

She said over GHc44, 000 have been spent on fees, uniforms, shoes and teaching materials.

Mrs Dzordzegbe, who is also the Principal Nursing officer at the Agona Swedru government Hospital, said the beneficiaries were selected from the Ekumfi district.

She said the Institute has also paid their fees to enable them to attend remedial classes to better their grades to pursue further education.

Mr Dzordzegbe appealed to parents not to abandon their “girl-child” when they drop from school, but rather encourage them to continue their education.

The CEO appealed to corporate bodies, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Central government and other philanthropists to assist the institute to continue its humanitarian work of helping needy girls in society.
