Accra Abattoir performs poorly on AKOBEN rating

The poor rating of Accra Abattoir Company Limited in Lashibi near Tema has not seen any improvement as the company had a rating level of RED in the latest AKOBEN rating released on Friday, October 11, 2013.

RED, which denotes ‘Poor’, has been the rating of Accra Abattoir Co. Ltd. since 2009, when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began the environmental ratings.

The Company performed poorly in 2012 in categories such as ‘Legal Issues’, ‘Hazardous and Toxic Waste Management’, ‘Non-Toxic Releases’ and ‘Environmental Monitoring and Reporting’.

It failed in corporate social responsibility (CSR), but performed satisfactorily in ‘Environmental best Pratices’.

None of the 100 ranked companies performed excellently though the Diamond Cement Limited and Ghana Rubber Estate Limited were one step shot of that performance.

A majority of the ranked companies, however, performed excellently with regard to CSR.
