The Volta School for the Deaf has become the latest school in Ghana to receive the ‘Gift of Hearing’ from the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
About 300 students of the school were taken through screening during a special exercise by the Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) at the school premises in Hohoe.
The exercise was carried out by staff of Starkey Hearing Foundation, led by Wilson Agbesi, Patient Care Coordinator, and Korle Bu Audiology Department, with support from teachers of the school.
The students’ ears were examined the ears, waxed and impression was taken, among others ears were screened and details were taken for the provision of hearing aids during the Foundation’s Mission to Ghana in February, 2014.
According to Mr. Wilson Agbesi, the Ghana office of the Foundation would be hosting the President of the world, Mr Bill Austin during the mission where about 3,000 persons with hearing impairment would be given hearing aids. He recounted that, pupils and students of Cape Coast School for the Deaf, Abomosu School for the Deaf, Adjei Kojo School for the Deaf (Ashiaman), Mampong Demonstration School for the Deaf and Mampong Secondary Technical School for the Deaf (SECTEDEAF) had already benefited from the screening exercise and were awaiting the distribution of the hearing aids in February.
He hinted that Oprah Winfrey may be joining Bill Austin to Ghana if all arrangements being put in place go through.
